Anyone for a Styrofoam Bath?

It was just me at the house today. My father-in-law wanted to start installing an air conditioner while the weather is cooler and my husband went with him. So I headed over to the house by myself, as there were a few jobs that needed to be done before we leave for home tomorrow. The rubbish bin was emptied this morning, along with the green waste bin. I had swept up all the leaves in the backyard (which is purely concrete) but I decided against putting them in the green waste bin. There were a lot of screws and bits of metal mixed in amongst them and while I could attempt to sort the leaves from the non-green waste items, there was no guarantee that I would find all the tiny screws. So I scooped the pile into the regular rubbish bin so that no one would have problems with the sharp objects puncturing tyres. I took the bin inside and added the pile of styrofoam tiles from the bathroom ceiling:

My husband scraped these tiles off the bathroom ceiling yesterday.

I swept the rest of the house for the umpteenth time and dumped all of the rubbish into the wheelbarrow. It isn’t supposed to be put in the regular kerbside rubbish so we will need to dispose of it another way. I also tidied up and moved some things around so the asbestos inspectors can look at some of the suspect walls when they come next week.

I couldn’t very well go without taking something apart so I had a hunt around. The edge of the carport is still attached to the house, as the bolts are rusted tight and we couldn’t use an angle grinder on the hot days due to the fire bans (the bans extends to power tools that are likely to cause sparks, such as angle grinders).

This little bit of the old carport is still there.

But there were not many tools left at the house and my father-in-law had even taken my beloved pry bar with him. I took down the pieces of panelling in the bathroom that I had loosened yesterday but no pry bar meant I couldn’t do any more than those. But I did have a plaster scraper that my husband had used to remove the foam tiles in the bathroom. And they had even left me a ladder. I set to work from the area that was already cleared in the corner. It wasn’t an easy job. It took me about an hour and I made an impressive mess. The ladder didn’t fit in the bath so I had to balance on the edges of the tub and work at almost the limit of my reach to get the last corner. But the ugly styrofoam is gone. I filled the remainder of the bin and then swept the tiles that didn’t fit into the bath tub:

I made a rather impressive mess.
Some of the tiles had already landed in the tub so I just added the rest to it.

The ceiling is clear of tiles to be inspected next week (I was very careful not to damage the actual ceiling).

No more ugly foam tiles.

I also did a short video of the house as it is now. Hopefully it gives a better idea about the layout. You can find it here: https://youtu.be/pvs5xkDFlN8 Enjoy!
