Bathrooms!

This is post is quite late! I have been experiencing some issues with my phone. It no longer registers that I have an SD card. Hence my computer doesn’t either! All my photos go to my SD card instead of the internal storage. Without the phone recognizing it has one, I can’t download any photos from my phone. It took me some time to work out why the SD card refused to show on the computer, so this post is a little late while I tried to figure out the problem. I ended up emailing the photos to myself to be able to put this together. Yes, I have bought a new phone (thanks Black Friday sales!) so hopefully next time it all works smoothly. Bonus – the photos should be better than what my current 5 year old phone can take! But, on to some photos!

We Have Ensuite Walls!

Ensuite walls – to the left is the toilet location and to the right is the shower.
The ceilings are not quite the same height as the original part of the house but they are still pretty high!

The ensuite required quite a lot of planning to be able to lay out the tight space while still being functional. The above standard height means it looks bigger than it is. Both the ensuite and bathroom will essentially be the opposite to the rest of the house. The walls in the living areas and bedrooms are grey with white trim. The ensuite and bathroom walls will be white semi-gloss tile with grey floors.

The current trend of neutrals means there are plenty of options for grey tiles but we ended up going with this one.

We had some tiles leftover from my husband’s late uncle, most of which were also grey and white. We worked out a way to utilize them and reduce the amount of tiles we had to buy.

Main Bathroom and Laundry

We even have a bathtub!

The vanity will go at the end of the tub with the shower on the other side of the room. We worked into the plan a way to reuse the original shower screen that we saved when we demolished the bathroom. Less waste, less cost!

Random Jobs

There are always so many little jobs to be done around the place.

New stovetop

With the old glass stove top split by a massive crack, I hunted around for a replacement. I found this one on Facebook Marketplace. It was brand new, in its box and half the price it originally cost. It will also hardier than the old glass top.

We almost cleared the entire wood scrap pile.

We loaded the trailer full with scrap wood. All of it went on the bonfire pile. But we really need a large magnet to collect all the stray nails and screws! With summer around the corner, we wanted the pile gone to eliminate hiding places for critters. We didn’t find our blue tongue lizard friend but we did find plenty of centipedes *shudder*.

It took three of us to manoeuvre the ceiling into place around those jutting pieces of roof trusses. It will all look a lot more finished when the house is painted white instead of yellow…

Kitchen Floor

We peeled back the old linoleum in the kitchen. It wasn’t in great shape underneath, so we needed a solution to replace it. We were going to go with new vinyl, until my husband’s uncle cleared out his late brother’s shed and found some 60cm square tiles and asked if we could use them. They are a mix of brown and grey and really brighten the kitchen compared to the previous dark grey linoleum.

While the kitchen is staying as is for now, the new floor is a big improvement.

That is all I have for now! It is starting to look more like a house under renovation, rather than a demolition site. Hopefully next time, there will be some tiled bathrooms as well!

Hasta luego!
