It has not been the best weather for painting but despite that, all the exterior painting is finally finished! The house looks so much brighter, with the walls triple coated with First Snow and the high contrast Basalt trim. We had to make some early starts and then do more in the afternoons to avoid the blazing sun. The heat was unavoidable though and we were confined to indoor jobs only on one day once it got past about 10.00am. The forecast top temperature for the day 40C/104F. By mid-morning it was already 36C/97F and the paint was setting before you could even paint it on! A cool change came through in the afternoon but the strong gusty wind meant no painting then either. But by using early mornings and late afternoons, we finished and it looks amazing! (Even if I do say so myself!) What do you think?
A Few Indoor Jobs
We made our choice for carpet and the installer informed us that the charcoal looped pile we chose could be installed almost straight away. We spent most of our last day at the house cleaning up. Two loads of concrete, bricks and stone blocks went to the dump. With the trailers already at the house, we filled them up with leftover tiles, painting gear and tools that we wouldn’t need again. We also vacuumed and swept the two now empty bedrooms. With carpet going down in the loungeroom, we also moved the cupboards out to the kitchen temporarily.
A Heap of Bricks and a Fence
Two seemingly unconnected objects I know but we finally moved that heap of bricks that we removed from the old fireplace. Most of them had already been taken away since they were broken, covered in concrete or mortar etc. The originally neat stack had tumbled down at some stage as well. But we used some of them to make a neat row under the new side fence, which just needs the sheeting on it.
If you noticed that (besides the obvious fence rails and the missing heap of bricks that I already mentioned) the pile of gravel has disappeared, the downpipe has been rerouted to followed the post and the post has been painted Basalt, you are very observant! The tap was there the whole time – it was hidden behind the brick pile. Next job, make that random assortment of metal scrap disappear… does anyone have a magic wand I can borrow?
Hasta luego!
