Back at the house today! We spent another very warm day getting things ready for the asbestos removal crew to be able to more easily access some of the material they need to dispose of. Most of the work centred around the bathroom. We discovered the bath would have to stay, as it seems to be embedded under the wooden panelling (we were instructed to not remove any more than we already had). So we started on the shower screen instead. Several screws on each side held it onto the wall but removing them didn’t completely free the glass screen. We ended up taking out the rivets that held the two pieces together and eventually wrangled them free of the thick silicone around the base.

As you can see, we found quite a lot of rot, which just proves that it is a ridiculous idea to line your bathroom with wooden panelling.

We also removed the vanity and that pretty much completed everything we did in there. The remaining panelling will be taken away with the asbestos. Almost everything in this photo below will be taken away:

The only wall that will stay is the one on the right. It backs onto the kitchen, which we are not planning to change. They will remove as much as possible and we will simply not touch that wall except to paint it. However, the wall the sliding kitchen door is mounted on will go and we plan not to replace it. I didn’t get back to the house later this afternoon so I will have to post a photo of that wall tomorrow.
My father-in-law has been repairing the cracks in the stone in the lounge room and done a base coat of plaster in some of the room. I sanded most of it today so he can do another coat.

We cut down the offending empress tree and will poison the stump this time. It quite oddly had a mostly hollow trunk:

We had to take the kids with us today so our work day was shortened by the need to get them home for a nap hence we didn’t get much more than that done today. Oh, sweeping. I did more sweeping before we started but it barely looks like I did any cleaning at all.
Thank you for reading and I’ll be back tomorrow!
